Manufacturer held its annual general meeting this week

Nokia management promised to regain lost ground in the smartphone market at its annual general meeting (AGM) this week. The AGM was held on May 6.

The manufacturer's chairman, Jorma Ollila, said the board was fully supportive of efforts to shift the company's focus from hardware to services.

Pressure has mounted on Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo since Nokia cut its profit forecast and delayed the launch of a new range of smartphones last month, showing its struggle to compete with manufacturers such as RIM.

Kallasvuo promised a 'solid foundation' was in place for growth and promised a new generation of high-end devices to help close the gap.

He said: 'We are working hard to reclaim leadership in high-end smartphones and mobile computers. It is critical that we improve the customer experience of both our devices and our services.'

The AGM resolved to elect ten members to the board. The following members of the Nokia Board were re-elected for a term until the close of the Annual General Meeting in 2011: Lalita D. Gupte, Dr. Bengt Holmstrm, Prof. Dr. Henning Kagermann, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Per Karlsson, Isabel Marey-Semper, Jorma Ollila, Dame Marjorie Scardino, Risto Siilasmaa and Keijo Suila.

In its assembly meeting, the board of directors elected Jorma Ollila as chairman of the board, and Dame Marjorie Scardino as vice chairman of the board.
